Norwegian and Danish Ancestry
|
|
My mother's father, Richard Alvin Groettum was of half Norwegian and half Danish ancestry. He was
born in North Dakota in 1898 to Berndt Cornelius Groettum and Margretta Kirstine Brandt, who were married about 1897.
Berndt was the third child born in America to Rasmus Joensen Groettum and Marte Andersdatter Haug. The Groettum's immigrated to America in 1859 from Nord-Trøndelag, Norway.
Margretta was born in Denmark to Jens Christian Brandt and Anne Marie Andersdatter. The Brandts immigrated to America in 1876.

German ancestry
|
|
My mother's mother, Freda Christoffer, was of full German ancestry. She was born in North Dakota
in 1903 to John Christoffer and Caroline Dorothea Henrietta Grell, who were married in Iowa in 1890.
John was born somewhere in Germany about 1850 and immigrated to America about 1864. Nothing is currently known about his time in Germany.
Caroline was born in Fehmar, Germany in 1872 to Carl Heinrich Ludwig Grell and Margaretha Freiderika Kropp. Caroline immigrated to American with her brother Hans in 1887.
